It's A Small World After All

Last night a member of the Bishopric called to set up an appointment to meet the new girls in the ward. Throughout the conversation we realized that his dad was the creative director at my old job in SLC. Crazy!

Good Friday

I had a great day Friday. Nothing overly exciting happened, but I feel like days like this are few and far between so I thought I would share.

Work was extremely hectic as my co-worker was on vacation, but you know what....this new girl actually did a pretty good job and handling everything. It was the first time at my new job where I did not feel clueless and helpless. I loved it.

Friday night, I had plans with some friends. We met up at my place and decided to be adventurous and try a new restaurant. We ended up at Mondello's in downtown Magnolia. It was this great little family owned Italian restaurant. The hot Italian host (click the Mondello's link to see him, the one in glasses) and I had a chummy conversation while we waited for a seat and by the end of the night, he hugged me goodbye. I know he is overly friendly with everyone that comes into his restaurant, but I still like to think of him as my boyfriend for the night.

After dinner, we headed over to Ballard, parked and walked though downtown window shopping (ok, really we had to park in B.F.E. and ran to the shop as it was raining and freezing.) We went for some delicious desert at Cupcake Royale. The red velvet cupcake and remanisant conversation were perfect.

The night ended with a movie from Blockbuster and going to bed knowing I could sleep in as late as I wanted. Ahh...good times.

Oh Man....

Being a single Mormon girl has its goods and bads. This email from a ward member would definitely fall into the bad category. Is this really the type of activities they expect me to participate in? Do they know we are not in Young Womans/Mens anymore? We are adults now. When do we get to start acting like it?
Hello All,

The Institute Dance Club will be putting on a dance routine for the YSA Conference this summer. If you are interested in participating let me know ASAP. The Conference is June 20th-22nd. Also if anyone has experience choreographing I could use that too.
I would volunteer, but have been told my type of choreography is not "church appropriate." :)

Glowing In The Dark

I almost forgot that I bought tickets to the Kanye West concert because who does not want to see him live.

Steph kept saying how out of place she felt, but I was loving every minute of it.  Kanye pulled the most ghetto fabulous Seattle crowd ever.  There was the guy that looked exactly like Busta Rhymes, Aunt Jemima, the brothas in front of us toasting us after every song, the guys behind us having a dance off in between acts, and the annoying girls sitting around us just to name a few of the highlights.

Rihanna sang a few songs and wore two killer neon outfits that matched her Lee press on pink nails.

Then came Kanye.  I knew going into the show he was a self obsessed jerk and his show confirmed this.  He did the entire 90 minute set on this stage alone.  He had all of his singers and band down below in black so you could not see them.

His show was very strange about a space ship crashing and him being the biggest star and trying to get back to Kanye land, etc.  It was weird and really quite boring.  He hyped it up like it was going to be the best show ever with all these great special effects when all it ended up being was a stage that lit up and went up and down a few times.  LAME!!!  He kept looking up at himself on the big screens, got mad about that the smoke was not coming out fast enough, and got mad when the pre-programed spotlights were not on him.  I will say it was impressive that he could rap/sing for 90 minutes, but it was still a huge let down.  The people watching was 10,000 times better then the show.

My favorite thing about these picture is the face that I got in with a camera.  Let me explain.  As we were going in, the security woman asked me to open my purse.  She saw my camera and said, "If that is a camera, you can't bring it in and you will have to leave the orange because you can't bring in food."  I said ok, handed her the orange and walked in. :)  She was the worst security guard ever and I was very glad.

Here's a little clip of Kanye from the show.

Tells A Lot About A Person

I have always said you can tell a lot about a person by their hands. Hands are one of the first things I notice about people and in fact there are some people I have a hard time being around because they have bad hands, but on the flip side there are also people who I have been drawn to mainly because of their hands. (Weird I know, but get over it) Now don't get all self conscience on me. Really the main things that turn me away are guys with feminine hands or guys with long finger nails (but please keep the clipping of them to yourself!!!). Other then that, I think you can learn a lot about people. I'm not willing to share my hand theories with the world wide web on hands and personalities, but I challenge you to start noticing peoples hands and see what trends you find.

Today I realized you can also tell a lot about people by the way they take notes. Some people write large, bubbly, skip multiple lines in between each bullet point, small one words notes, etc. Next time you are in a meeting look around at peoples note taking habits and see if they match up with their personalities. And you know the guy in the room not taking notes really doesn't have a personality! :)

Helga

I have a bad habit of getting a massage at least once a month. This week, I had a GREAT masseuse, but she was a talker. Her name was Patrica, but a I like to call her Helga because she was a big woman with a thick accent.

Helga, "Do you drink water?"
Me, "Does Diet Coke count?"
Helga, "No, you are very dry. Drink more water."

Helga, "You have circulation problems in your feet."
Me, "I know. They are always cold and go numb quite often at random times."
Helga, "You should do exercises that move the blood up your legs."
Me, "Ya, I should exercise."

As she massaged my leg and bum, "Wow, you don't have any cellulite....wait, there is a little in your butt cheek." (Was this a compliment or motivation to go the gym?)

She was super crazy, but gave a great massage. Helga, see you again in two weeks.

Hotel Cafe Tour

The Hotel Cafe Tour was quite the concert. It has been sold out in Seattle for over a month but thanks to Craigs List, a shady deal in the Microsoft parking lot, and 2 tickets later, Steph and I were able to go. It was in a very small dive up on Capitol Hill which is always good time. :)

We were most excited to see Ingrid Michaelson again, but found some crazy entertainment in a few of the other artists. I will not bore you with a play by play, but give you my quick recap of each artist.

William Fitzsimmons:
He was great; good music, good voice, and pretty funny. He kept doing things that reminded us of Danny K - wish he would have come out and played a second time

Meiko:
Love her! She is like a mix of Brandi Carlile and Ellen Page. I really like her music, but I did have a sad concert moment when I turned to Steph and asked why I knew she "kept them in a box under her bed?" Em and Chels...I missed you!

Jim Blanco:
Ok, this guy was a total weirdo! I would describe his singing face as John Mayer ugly singing face on drugs at the circus. I will give him credit because he brought the band out into the crowd and sang a great song, but still....he was a little too out there for me.

Jesca Hoop:
She was just straight up weird and very very high!

Carry Brothers:
He was great. Rocked out, talked about his song being on Gray's Anatomy and was a funny guy.

Ingrid Michaelson:
The last time I saw her, I should have been home packing up my house. When I saw her this time, I should have been home finishing up a work project that was due in the morning. Thankfully, she was worth the all nighter I pulled both times.

Motownphilly back again

Today I received an email about the upcoming Boyz II Men concert. What the? I guess it really is so hard for them to say goodbye to yesterday, but they should because it's the end of the road.

Too Funny

As Steph and I were driving to a concert last night (more to come later) with Rock Your Body by Justin Timberlake playing quietly in the background on the radio. We were talking and trying to find the venue when without a word, both Steph and I stopped and double clapped at the clapping part of the song and started up the conversation again like nothing had happened. It was like second nature to both of us. I laughed so hard and knew I had found a true friend. We are dorks.

Not Appropriate....but so funny

Warning this is an R rated post and I'm not kidding.

If any of you saw Sarah Silverman's and Jimmy Kimmel's songs to each other, you will really appreciate this:

Grown Up?

My brothers and I try to get together at least once a week for dinner. Tonight we meet up in Issaquah as we were all on that side of the water. My favorite part of dinner went a little something like this:
Lindsay: Ben, would you like me to pour you some oil and vinegar for you bread?
Ben: No, I am an adult and can do it my self.
Jared: Really because I don't think adults put their gum on the side of their plates.
Ah good times....

Rocked My Body

Yesterday I stared feeling under the weather, but kept trying to tell myself I was not getting sick. Needless to say, I woke up this morning and am admitting my body beat my mind...this time. American Idol on NyQuil is great. You should try it tomorrow night.
