Rosie Thomas Concert

Before Christmas Steph and I went to the Rosie Thomas Christmas Concert and she is straight up crazy. Her speaking voice sounds like a little kid, but it's the real deal. Her singing voice is amazing. The two do not match and really throw me off. We did not fit in with the hipster crowed, but still enjoyed the show. My favorite part of her set had to be when she started tap dancing on stage while dangling the microphone by her feet to capture the sound.

You can her her Christmas CD here. My favorite is Silent Night around the 1 minute mark.

Christmas 2008

My brother and I ventured out in the snow storm and 6 hours later made it into snowy Spokane and I mean SNOWY. They have had a record 46.2 inches of snow in the month of December!

It was a pretty low key holiday. We did lots of this:

And spent hours watching baby Mabel make funny faces like this:

And reading books:

We missed having the Moore family there, but had fun with the Clays. I think the highlight of the holiday was a vicious game of Phase 10, Operation Take Down Mom which included lots of cheating and plenty of laughs. Santa treated me real good and I learned how to make sushi. I'm now safely back in Seattle, the tree is down and I'm ready to dominate 2009.

I'm Just Sayin

This sign was outside a grocery store in Spokane:

Safe place, really? I think your sign looks more like a "molesters hangout."

It's the End of the World as we Know It.

Well Seattle has officially shut down. With 7+ inches of snow and more in the forecast, people are acting like it's the end of the world. Don't worry though, I was able to get a pedicure and more diet coke before I became trapped so I'm set for a few days.

What the ?

What a CRAZY week. Monday my house was overflowing with church folks trashing the freshly cleaned kitchen floor. Tuesday I got a text from an old "friend" that emotionally sent me back to a place I quickly left behind again. Wednesday life threw another curve ball at me, but it's times like this that make me feel so lucky to have such a great family and group of friends. Wednesday night as part of 'operation cheer up Lindsay,' my brother Jared came over for dinner and to help decorate Christmas cookies. Look how happy his little diabetic face looks when I feed him sugar.

Today Seattle got a few inches of snow which means the entire city shuts down. I slept in until 10:30, read a book and spent 2 hours trying to get to and from the airport. It was the perfect snow day and I can't wait to do it again tomorrow.

Today at the Gym

I was in the middle of bench pressing when Javon leaned down and told me I had a gym boyfriend that was following me around. I was focused on my workout and was completely unaware of him. Javon went on to say, "He was checking out your derriere while you were doing dips earlier and I think he liked what he saw."

I literally almost dropped the bar from laughing so hard. Who says "derriere? I never saw who it was, but I'm sure our gym love will bring us together again.

The gym adventure continued with both of my trainers having a robot dance off followed by a group singalong to Brick House.

Good times. Good times.

Pantalones

I heard the garage door open and I paniced. Steph walked in from work earlier then usual....earlier then I was expecting. She started telling about her day as I sat on the couch wrapped up in a banked not sure how I was going to get out of this one. I knew I was going to have to tell her because at this point I was trapped.
Me: Um, Steph. Don't be scared, but I'm not wearing any pants underneath this blanket.
Steph: Ah...ok.
Me: I was doing laundry and needed to wash them. I'm going to the gym in a few and thought I could work for a bit longer, change into my gym cloths, and be out the door before you were home.
Steph: It's cool.
We continued to chat about the day, what our plans were for the weekend and carry on like everyone in the coversation was fully clothed.
Steph: I'm heading upstairs to change. The bus was late again and I'm damp from the windy rain storm. Do you want me to get you some pants?
Me: Yes please.
Steph: I mean, you don't have to put pants on, but if you want I can grab some for you.
Me: Oh, I'd prefer it.
Tell me again why we don't have our own reality show?

I Was Running

So I've become addicted to running. I was always that girl that hated running if it was not after something (like a ball) or away from something (like a tuna fish sandwich). I just did not get it, but I wanted to. I wanted to prove to myself that I could be a runner.

My friends inspired me and I started the couch to 5k program a few months back and now I run 3 miles 3-4 times a week. There were a few bumps along the way, but finally hitting my 3 mile goal was a big milestone.

My next goal is to run a 1/2 marathon and since I am obsessed with music, I found the perfect race. The Seattle Rock n Roll Marathon and 1/2 Marathon. They have live bands all along the course and the race ends with a concert. It's like the running god's read my mind. I'm registered and going to set my training schedule up next week, but I am challenging all of my readers to run this with me. The race is not until the end of June so there is plenty of time for you to get in shape.

I guarantee that if I can be a runner, so can you. Do it. Make this your 2009 goal and run with me.

He Just Can't Get Close Enough

I think I finally figured out why I have not been sleeping very well lately.

Why Little Tree, Why

Spent 2 hours last night taking the colored lights off the trees. Who knew trees that came with lights on them have a million plastic ties holding the lights to EVERY SINGLE BRANCH.

I could not bring myself to work on it today. Anyone looking to do a little service. I know just the project for you.

Tomorrow I either post a picture of the finished project or of a newly purchased menorah.

Christmas Tree Update

I ran to the store on my way to FHE last night and pick up a new tree since the old one has thankfully been permanently removed from my life! I was not willing to fork over $200 bones, so I picked the cheapest one and was on my way.

Big mistake. I pulled it out of the box excited to set it up when I learned (for the millionth time) that you get what you pay for. It looked less like a tree and more like a hoop skirt with green crap crawling out of it.

Today at work I realized I was too good for that crappy tree. It was pathetic and embarrassing. I could have made a better looking tree out of wire hangers and green pipe cleaners.

Which takes us to Christmas tree number 3. I found a great one 50% off at a craft store. It has no plastic parts and comes with lights already on it, well short of. It came with colored lights and I have VERY strong feelings against colored lights. If you have small kids I will let it pass, but in my opinion colored Christmas lights are tacky and UGLY. Needless to say those bad boys are being replaced tomorrow.

Here's to 3 trees, 6 hours I can never get back and a trashed living room with an undecorated tree. I think I might be getting sick tomorrow afternoon at work in order to be done with this stupid tree already.
