Space Heater

I work in a warehouse which is pretty ghetto. Part of its ghettoness is the heat/cold. Depending upon which part of the office you are in, it may be scolding hot or freezing cold. I happen to have a cubical in one of the very coldest parts and as such freeze everyday. I had a space heater that was doing the trick until it up and died the other day. I did a little shopping online and found that Walmart and Home Depot had some small enough and in stock at their stores....so the World Wide Web claimed.

Yesterday I went to Walmart and they only had a few large space heaters left. Today I went to Home Depot and was told they are not selling them anymore because they are seasonal and we are past the winter season.

Now, I am no meteorologist....but did anyone look outside today. We received a boat load of snow....there were accidents everywhere...and they even closed down the local University. And one more thing Home Depot....take a look at the weather forecast over the next coupled of days. What season do you think we are in?

I guess now I will have to put my trust in the World Wide Web again and order one online.

Why Book Jackets

There is nothing I love better then getting a brand new, best selling, hard cover book. I love reading which is quite a miracle since I could not read until the 3rd grade. I crawl in bed, crack the seal, and....take the book jacket off. Why do they even put book covers on? It is even more baffling when they print the cover on the book and the book jacket. I don't get it. Book jackets are sometimes referred to as dust jackets....come one. Are you really worried about getting the outside of your book dusty?

It they are trying to protect the book and keep it in good condition, let look at what types of wear and tear really affect the book.

1. Water - reading on the beach or in the bathtub have ruined a few of my books
2. Bent Corners - I like to read at night until I am exhausted and sometime I miss judge the distance to my nightstand and the book ends up on the floor
3. Smashed Pages - I like to carry a book with me everywhere I go and anyone that knows me knows my purse is chuck full with a million other things. I have ruined a few books frantically digging through my purse to find my phone.

I don't see how a book jacket would prevent any of these things, but what can you do. For now, I will keep buying books and keep taking off their book jackets while I read them.

Can You Feel Your Eyes

I have been thinking about Lasik and doing research on it for over a year. Today I went and had a Lasik consultation. At first they take you into a room and do pretty standard eye examination things. Next is where it started to get fun/freaky.

They put numbing drops into my eyes which I have never had before. They said "this will sting a little, but only for a few seconds." What they did not tell me is that having numb eyes feels freaky and out of wack. All of a sudden, she was pulling my eye lids open and putting some type of metal object on my eyes. My brain was telling me to freak out and back away, but before I could react, I realised the metal was already in my eye, but I could not feel it. I have never done drugs before, but I am guess it is like what I went through. Not having my brain and actions match was freaking me out.

They then take you into this little room, show you a video, go over everything and answer you questions. I don't remember much of the video because I was so freaked out that I could not feel my eyes. I never realised that you feel you eyes working all the time, but mine were not wanted to cooperate.

It ended and surprisingly I still wanted to go through with it. I have not made a final decision, but I feel really good about it. They no longer use a razor blade to cut open the flap to you eye. They use a laser. The entire procedure for both eyes only takes about 10-15 minutes, but when they cut the flap and pull it back...you are bind. Ah...ya...blind.

All in all, I learned that I have stigmatise in both eyes, thick corneas, large pupils, and a big decision to make.

The Fray

A few weeks ago Stephanie and I went to see The Fray in concert. I started to like them after hearing their songs on my favorite show Grey's Anatomy. They played a great show. They sang all of my favorite songs and the feeling in the room was amazing. The concert was in this little field house that was sold out. The Fray are still small enough that they have a pretty devoted and small following. It was great. For their encore song, they played "How To Save A Life" and on the last chorus they stopped playing and the entire audience sang it together. I love moments like this in life. It is amazing feeling the energy in a room while everyone sings in unison. I like to think there will be a lot of this in heaven, but I hope we can sing more then just church hymns.

Aside from the end, my second favorite part was when they sang Weezer, Sweater song. It took me back to my high school days and the crowd went wild and sang along.

The great night continued as we waited for the place to clear out. They turned on the lights and started playing music. Everyone was taking their time leaving the field house when they started playing Neil Diamond's Sweet Carolyn. Again, everyone started singing in unison. Why is it that whenever Sweet Carolyn starts playing everyone sings....you just can't help it....try it. Think of the words to the song and I dare you to not sing Bum, Bum, Bum....good times never felt so good.

All in all, it was an amazing, spiritual, fun, and unforgettable night.

Remember

This past Monday an 18 year old man went into Trolley Square (a shopping mall in SLC) and starting shooting people with a shot gun. He wounded many people and killed 5 people before the police killed him. It was extremely sad to watch on the news and the next day at work, everyone was talking about it. We quickly found out that one of the guys in our creative department was shot and in the hospital in criticual condition. Today we found out he was shot 4 times by a shotgun and miraculously lived.

It really made me stop and remember to be greatful for each day. You never know what the future holds.

My Favorite Valentine

This has to be my most favorite Valentin's Day card ever.

Only 12 More Degrees

I had a great lunch today. I walked outside and quickly stopped. It was so warm. I slowly walked to my car and had a sudden desire to mow the lawn, plant flowers, and start a garden. I got in my car, opened the sun roof and read that it was 63 degrees outside. Do you realise this is only 12 degrees away from the perfect 75 degree weather I have been dreaming about.

I casually drove to and from Walmart trying to absorb as much of the sun as possible before I had to go back into my cubical. I was a little sad to be back inside, but had a great ending to my lunch break after reading the family blog and finding out that my sister is going to have another baby! :)

Now, if I could only arrange someway to have dinner made by the time I get home and some cute guy to watch The Office with me, it may just be the greatest day so far this year.

Goodbye Car Of The World

For that past few months I have been thinking about trading in my car for something more practical. I have loved my BMW, but every month when I make my payment, knowing that it is only going towards my leases and not towards paying off the car was killing me. I have been looking and shopping around for a few weeks and last night I did it....I bought a new car.

It was a little weird handing over the keys to the nicest car I am sure I will even own, but I am extremely pleased with my new purchase. It is a Black Acura 3.2TL type S. It has black leather interior, heated seats, a navigation system, and plenty of cup holders.

Ode to Cheta

I just checked my family blog and found this sad post from my dad:

I've been feeling real tired lately so dad took me to the Vet today and bought me a one-way ticket to the big cat house in the sky. See you guys later. Love, Cheta

I am so sad. I loved Cheta. I remember when my mom brought her home from Albertsons. She has had quite the life. Her name when from Hanna Beth, to Hanna Beth Chea Pet, to just Cheta. I remember when she had babies behind Natalie’s bed. She liked to sleep by my feet and always gave me a good morning purr on my way to early morning seminary. I like to think she liked me best, but really I think she liked my bed the best. She loved to make a nest in my hair and sleep there until I moved. She loved to dip her paws in the water if you let it run while you brushed your teeth. I told her everything in High School. She was the only one I trusted and confided in because she always loved me no matter what. While I was home with the flu over Thanksgiving, she never left my side.

I love her and will miss her.
